Marilyn Alverio

Founder & CEO, Latinas & Power Corp.

Having grown up in an urban neighborhood Marilyn learned early on about the impact of giving back to the community, volunteerism and paying it forward. Her parents migrated to Connecticut from Puerto Rico and instilled the importance of “la Familia,” tradition, culture, our language and being involved in “La Communidad.” Today, Marilyn is an orgullosa bilingual and bi-cultural contributing member of the community. She earned her B.A from the University of CT. in Storrs, CT and later an M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix.

Marilyn has worked in the corporate arena for more than twenty five years where she has held numerous management positions within the airlines, pharmaceutical, education, financial and health insurance industries. As an entrepreneur, she founded Ethnic Marketing Solutions, an agency that focused on strategic marketing for companies interested in learning about and tapping into multicultural markets

Her success as creator, founder, and producer of the Latinas and Power Symposium® (LPS), has achieved national recognition.  Since 2004, she has held an annual symposium created to inspire, motivate, and provide the tools and resources that enable Latinas to succeed as leaders and advocates. Over the years, the network has reached upwards of 10,000 Latinas from across the U.S. Since the pandemic, the network expanded their reach by adding virtual lunch & learn sessions throughout the year. Their social media platform includes Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin.  The group obtained a 501 C 3 status in 2019 under the umbrella of Latinas & Power Corp. Currently the organization is  developing a new programmatic initiative called the Latinas in Leadership Institute (LiLI).  Marilyn was elected as CEO of Latinas & Power Corp. in 2020.

Dr. Damary Bonilla-Rodriguez

Dr. Damary M. Bonilla-Rodriguez is a national leading authority on leadership development, especially as it pertains to diversity and inclusion. She delivers keynote addresses and presentations drawing upon her experience from roles in the non-profit, private, and government sectors, as well as her doctoral research.

Her research about Latina leadership in the United States has served as the foundation for events, conference sessions, publications, and content development – to address the urgency of leadership development for a fast-growing population and create a pipeline of diverse leaders.     

Dr. Bonilla-Rodriguez holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Social Work from the College of New Rochelle where she received the College President’s Medal, graduated with Departmental Honors, and was awarded the Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Award.  She also holds a Master of Science degree in Organizational Communications and a Specialized Certification in Corporate Communications, both from the College of New Rochelle. Personal endeavors of overcoming statistics and accessing higher education, led her to earn a Doctorate in Education focusing on Executive Leadership from St. John Fisher College.  

To change the political and leadership landscape for Latinos, Dr. Bonilla-Rodriguez ran for State Representative in the 189th District of Pennsylvania in the 2016 election cycle where she became the 1st Hispanic to make a State ballot in Pike and Monroe Counties. In November 2019, she became the 1st Hispanic elected as School Board Director in the East Stroudsburg Area School District where she Chairs the Education committee. Passionate about supporting professional organizations, she is a Board Member of the Brodhead Watershed Association, Colonial IU 20 where she serves as Vice President, Prospanica NY where she serves as Vice President of Professional Development, ACLU of Pennsylvania, Latina VIDA, Latinas on the Plaza and an Advisory Board member for several organizations including: The Board of Hispanic Caucus Chairs, Monroe County Children and Youth where she Chairs the Education committee, SciGirls, the Alliance for Positive Youth Development, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education Equity Task Force where she Chairs the Advocacy subcommittee. In addition, she was appointed by Governor Tom Wolf to represent the Poconos Region on statewide commissions on Redistricting Reform and Latino affairs where she Chairs the statewide Education committee. 

Dr. Bonilla-Rodriguez was recognized as a 2014 Coors Light Lideres finalist and is the recipient of numerous awards including a proclamation from the NYS Assembly, the Proud to Be Latina Soy Poderosa award, the GACLA recognition award and the SISGI Beyond Good Ideas Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership award. Her published written accomplishments include the books Gender, Race and Ethnicity in the Workplace and Today’s Inspired Latina (Volume II), as well as contributing to the Huffington Post and being featured by several media outlets including NBC Latino, Chief Writing Wolf, and the Empowered Latinas series.  

While, she is proud of her many accomplishments, she highlights her greatest as being the mother of thirteen-year-old twin boys, Caleb and Joshua. She resides in Pennsylvania with her boys and husband Robert. Her favorite quote is: “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants” (Newton).

Yvonne Alverio

Yvonne Alverio is the founder and Principal Consultant of Yvonne Alverio & Associates, a management consulting firm specializing in organizational and leadership development, and strategic Inclusion & Diversity Processes.  She has over thirty years of experience in managing and consulting in diverse environments, both public and private.

Her expertise is in strategic planning, team dynamics, management development, culture change, building inclusive organizations, and the creation of targeted tool kits to help individuals in their management roles. She is also a Certified Executive Coach. Yvonne has consulted to a wide range of mid-sized and Fortune 500 firms in health care, pharmaceuticals, financial services, insurance, publishing, retail, oil and gas, manufacturing, as well as, Law firms, community based and educational institutions, non-profit organizations, as well as, State and Federal Government.  

Prior to her consulting practice, Yvonne served as Head of Workforce Diversity for Aetna Life and Casualty where she was responsible for leading the company’s development of strategies, systems and management practices that support worldwide high performance and integrate key business goals with diversity. Previously, she has worked as Corporate Director of Diversity and Staffing for Lotus Development Corp, Human Resources Manager for Wang Laboratories; Minority/Women Business Enterprise Program Manager for the Environmental Protection Agency, an employment and  training manager for a City of Boston Youth Program, and Social Worker for the State of Connecticut.  She also served in the Army Reserves, and retired in June of 2002 from Connecticut National Guard after twenty-seven years of service. While in the Army, she held positions in Human Resources, Military Intelligence, and as Training Officer. Her Graduate work is in Human Resources Management having received certifications on several Organizational Development assessment tools. 

Yvonne has appeared in a several training films, and has authored articles related to Diversity and Inclusion that were published in local newspapers and National Magazines. She has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout her life from her community advocacy and involvement, military awards, to her professional affiliations. 

Rebecca Melley

Program Manager

Rebecca Melley is the program Manager for the Latinas in Leadership Institute. For three years she has worked with Latinas & Power Corp. contributing to our lunch & Learns series, social media content creation, event coordination, community outreach, and relationship management. Specializing in diversity, equity, and inclusion, Rebecca uses that experience and passion to elevate our Latina Community. She is a proud mother of one , a University of Connecticut alum, an avid traveler. 

Ana Valentin

Program Evaluator

Ana Valentín is a life-long learner, interdisciplinary, and results-driven bilingual professional. She is the CEO of Mejora, Inc., a gateway consulting agency that shines the light on the intersection between leadership development and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to get clients to problem solve.

Her professional background spans over 25 years in the public and nonprofit sector in different capacities from logistics to senior leadership roles, which allows her to consult for several nonprofits, government agencies, and small businesses in Connecticut. 

In April 2022, Ana graduated from the NeighborWorks Achieving Excellence Senior Leadership Program at Harvard Kennedy School. Simultaneously in September 2022, Ana completed her Executive Certificate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Georgetown University in Washington DC, and earned her Executive Certificate in Accelerated Management at YALE School of Management. 

She earned her BS in Communications from Eastern Connecticut State University. 

Ana completed the course work for her Nonprofit Management Graduate Certificate at the University of Connecticut – West Hartford campus and is certified in Nonprofit Education by Board Source in Washington, DC. 

She has trained, moderated panels, and spoken at numerous events, including Latinas & Power Symposium, Leadership Greater Hartford, Maria C. Sánchez Awards, and numerous Women’s History Month events. 

Ana has served on numerous nonprofit boards in the Connecticut Greater Hartford Region and was heavily involved in galvanizing community efforts and resources to initiate post-Hurricane Maria relief efforts both in Puerto Rico and in Connecticut. 

In her free time, she balances her work by traveling, dabbling in artistic or home improvement projects, and spending time with her family.

Giselle Roldan

Giselle Roldan is the Executive Assistant to the Founder and CEO of Latinas and Power. She is an authentic, skilled, and dedicated professional with over 15 years of experience working in diverse nonprofit organizations. She is well known for her resourcefulness, positive attitude and calm demeanor. Giselle has three children who keep her on her toes. When she’s not driving them to and from practices, she enjoys listening to personal and professional development audio books, music, exercising, cooking and spending quality time with her loved ones.

What is the time commitment of the program?

We will have an in-person emersion launch weekend on September 21 -23, 2023 in Connecticut. Following the launch weekend, virtual classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. EST, followed by an optional 30 minutes of instructor time. There will be four required readings. We will offer you a list of optional reading materials. We will ask you to commit to one additional hour per week for homework and to meet with your cohort pod. Total hours per week: 4-5 hours.

What is the cost of the program?

The tuition rate for the 14- week program is $6,500 which includes the cost of launch weekend. 

Are full scholarships offered?

Since we are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we have been very intentional in securing grants and outside donations so that we could subsize a portion of the tuition for those who need assistance on a competitive basis. Please fill out the section in the application to submit your interest. We will ask for a short explanation on why you need financial support.

Your letter of recommendation should come from someone who knows your skills and who could elaborate on your character and passion.
