Latinas in Leadership Institute (LiLi) Receives $25K Grant from Liberty Bank Foundation

New Latinas & Power Corp Initiative Prepares Latinas to Take on Management, Leadership and Advocacy Roles

April 24, 2023/Hartford, CT…Latinas & Power Corp. (LPC), currently celebrating its 20th year of offering an inspiring, motivating and skills-based platform to career and business-minded Latinas, announced today that Liberty Bank Foundation has generously made a leadership gift of $25,000 supporting LPC’s newest learning platform: the Latinas in Leadership Institute (LiLi). Already a Presenting Sponsor of LPC’s flagship Latinas & Power Symposium, the award deepens Liberty Bank’s commitment to developing a diverse pipeline of Latina leaders, entrepreneurs, and advocates via the mutual bank’s charitable foundation.

Latinas & Power Corp. Founder and CEO Marilyn Alverio states, “To further elevate the Latina community, we have developed the Latinas in Leadership Institute, a new platform where Latinas can continue to build skills, identify growth opportunities, tap their unique passions, and make valuable contributions to their organizations, businesses, and communities. Before embarking on this initiative, we conducted surveys and virtual focus groups to understand the current needs of Latinas and what obstacles we face today. The findings in the report ‘The Latina Pathway to Excellence in a Post-Pandemic World’ infuse our curriculum which will be launched in September 2023. We are thrilled that Liberty Bank and Liberty Bank Foundation share our vision of investing in the future of our communities by contributing to the development of the next generation of Latina leaders.”

“Liberty Bank has been a dedicated supporter and partner of the Latinas and Power Corporation for several years through corporate sponsorships, financial literacy programs and volunteerism,” said David Glidden, Liberty Bank President and CEO and Liberty Bank Foundation President.

“The launch of LiLi is monumental and is the next big step in fulfilling the organization’s vision, which started blossoming 20 years ago. Today, we’re honored to provide funding from our Foundation that will ultimately uplift Latinas, building wealth, personal growth, entrepreneurship, and career development. Participants will gain critical skills and tools that will allow them to thrive, in turn, creating more equitable communities for years to come. We’re excited to elevate our partnership with Latinas and Power Corporation as we work hand-in-hand to provide more valuable resources and educational opportunities for the Latina population.”

About the Latinas in Leadership Institute (LiLi)

LiLi will be a 12-week virtual program centered on an initial cohort of 16 to 20 early-to-midcareer Latina professionals. While headquartered in Hartford, CT, the institute will be national in scope and consist of a leadership and advocacy certification program for participants via interactive virtual classes and guest speakers. Participants will work collaboratively on a capstone project focused on civic engagement. The recipients will complete the program with a Women in Leadership & Advocacy certificate during a graduation ceremony at the June 2024 Latinas & Power Symposium in Hartford, CT.

Alverio states, “The vision for LiLi is to increase the number of Latinas who are prepared to take on leadership and management roles within their respective companies, organizations and institutions. We want to create an environment that supports recruitment, retention and that promotes high-potential women and begins to close the Latina Leadership Gap in the U.S. We’ll accomplish this by utilizing the following learning pillars: growth mindset, authenticity, leadership influence, and civic engagement.”

Participants will leave with new ideas, skills, and confidence to pursue decision-making roles and add value to their respective organization or business. They will be part of an ongoing collaborative supportive network of participants, mentors and coaches that believe in promoting change.

A dedicated website for LiLi with an application portal launched recently at LatinasinLeadershipInstitute.com. In addition to Liberty Bank’s generous underwriting, Latinas and Power Corp received valuable planning support for LiLi from Connecticut Health Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater New Haven, and M&T Bank Foundation.
