RELEASE DATE:
November 2nd, 2023

Hartford, CT. Latinas & Power Corp. is proud to announce the launch of the first ‘Latinas in Leadership Institute’, (LiLi) a professional development program designed for Latina professionals in early and mid-career positions from the corporate, education, government, municipal, small business, and non-profit sectors. The institute aims to directly address the Latina leadership gap in the U.S. by positioning Latinas in the workplace and business for growth opportunities. The program provides skills and knowledge to enhance their leadership and advocacy capabilities.

Marilyn Alverio, CEO and founder of Latinas & Power Corp is the producer of the highly successful Latinas & Power Symposium (LPS), now in its 20th year, states, “LPS served as a launch pad for LiLi… [and] has given us the opportunity to access, look back and take stock of the present state of the Latina in the workplace and business sector, identifying the need for an initiative like LiLi.” Surveys and virtual focus groups yielded the current needs of Latinas and what obstacles they face today, producing an industry-leading report: “The Latina Pathway to Excellence in A Post-Pandemic World.” This was the fountainhead for the research-based curriculum for LiLi:

  • A 6-month virtual certification program that consists of leadership & advocacy
  • kicked off with a 2-day weekend retreat to build community
  • Virtual classes, guest presenters, and collaborative project work
  • 3 months of class work
  • 3 months dedicated to the capstone project

The outcomes are designed to develop a holistic understanding of the four learning pillars.

  1. Growth-mindset
  2. Authenticity
  3. Leadership Influence
  4. Civic Engagement

The women will apply this understanding to effectively navigate personal and professional challenges while creating positive changes within their organizations and their communities.

Initial planning support and a major financial gift helped build the infrastructure for this new Institute. The investment from the following entities and partners includes: Liberty Bank Foundation, CT Health Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater New Haven, M&TBank Foundation, Progresso Latino Fund, Voya Foundation, Bloomberg Foundation, TJX Foundation and the Connecticut Department of Economic & Community Development.

The next cohort class will begin in March of 2024 during women’s history month. Applications for the next class will open on November 6, 2023 and close on December 31, 2023. To obtain information go to: www.latinasinleadershipinstitute.com
