Meriden native creates event to empower Latinas

Growing up in central Connecticut, Marilyn Alverio said she faced discrimination. As a professional, working at a director level, she realized there was a lack of opportunities for Latinas when it came to leadership roles.

The Latinas & Power Symposium was created by Alverio — a Meriden native with Puerto Rican family roots — 19 years ago. Today I had the honor of being one of the four panelists representing The Hartford on Emerging Technologies at the Latinas and Power Symposium. I was reminded how fortunate I am to work for a company that embraces diversity and allows us to bring our authentic selves to work. I say it all the time, I work with the most talented and passionate group of individuals. I really enjoyed getting to know the other panelists as we prepared for the session and I left the event feeling motivated and rejuvenated.
